Algebra (Beginning and Intermediate)
Algebra is my favorite math subject. My experience with both teaching and tutoring Algebra is extensive. For ten years, I have taught beginning and intermediate Algebra at College of DuPage in the courses that are now known as Math 0481 and Math 0482. I have tutored remedial, regular, and honors Algebra in many forms including:
Beginning Algebra:
Algebra I for students in District 203 and 204, Benet, and others, Math 0481 at COD, PI Plus 7th grade math at Kennedy, middle school advanced 8th grade math.
Intermediate Algebra:
Algebra 2 and Honors Algebra 2 in District 203, Algebra II, Algebra II/Trig and Honors Algebra II/Trig in District 204, Math 0482 at COD, and others.
One interesting challenge about Algebra tutoring is that the different schools offer the topics in different orders, and even sort them into beginning and intermediate differently. My experience helps me navigate this. Also, my relationships with some of the teachers and my willingness to communicate with teachers on your behalf allows me to stay on top of this for your student.
Summer Algebra Review:
Between Geometry and the second year of Algebra, I highly recommend getting tutored to recapture Algebra. I have many materials in all topics of Algebra, and I am able to provide a very valuable review over the summer. When a student is about to enter the second year of Algebra, they are expected to know the Algebra from the first course. Some students have forgotten, and many did not even really understand it the first time. Coming for tutoring that summer is a really wise investment!
Algebra Review For College Placement Test:
When a student is about to start college, almost any school is going to give a placement test to decide on which math the student will need to take. Much of the material on those tests falls into the category of Algebra. It really pays to prepare, to brush up, to avoid being forced to take remedial math in college which costs both time and money.
